PFIZER’S GEORGE RATHBUN NAMED CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER, SAFE-BIOPHARMA ASSOCIATION
New York, NY, November 17, 2005 – George Rathbun, Director of Architecture in Pfizer’s Global Research and Development Informatics organization, has been named Chief Technology Officer of SAFE-BioPharma Association, it was announced today. Pfizer has seconded Mr. Rathbun to SAFE-BioPharma, the pharmaceutical industry sponsored organization developing and managing a secure digital signature standard for use globally throughout the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.
In his new position, Mr. Rathbun will oversee and administer all aspects of technology for SAFE-BioPharma. He will serve as chairman of the SAFE Technology and Implementation Working Groups and as the Chief Systems Architect for SAFE.
“George Rathbun’s background at Pfizer, knowledge of SAFE, and his broad knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry make him the ideal person to lead SAFE’s technology development and implementation,” said Mollie Shields-Uehling, president and CEO, SAFE-BioPharma Association.
Mr. Rathbun joined Pfizer in 1990 and has held a position as information and technology architect for the past 5 years. Mr. Rathbun was also the director of a group of Pfizer technologists whose role was to eliminate barriers to managing business processes within the pharmaceutical industry. As Pfizer’s informatics architect he was responsible for global implementation of informatics architecture standards. He was also responsible for delivering innovative IT solutions to the pharmaceutical industry in collaboration with IT vendors, industry forums and government agencies, including the FDA, EMEA and NCI. He has extensive knowledge in SAFE enabling enterprise and Internet applications.
